Green Revolution Future Food Unsecurity

The Disadvantages of Green Revolution
                                                             Green Revolution
This term is related to agriculture and level of its production. The term green revolution refers to advancement in agriculture. It  lead to increase in production of agricultural products by using advanced technique, materials related to physiology, genetics, growth pattern etc. Many countries were facing food shortage 1960s. Many scientists were working under different institution for the development of high yielding varieties. At the same time Dr. Norman E. Borlaug working in CIMMYT, known as father of green revolution introduced dwarf high yielding variety of wheat. This caused availability of nutritious food in the countries. Many other researches under different institution enhanced the effect causing food sufficiency called as green revolution. The change of agriculture pattern from traditional agriculture to modern agriculture with increased use of high yielding varieties, chemical fertilizers, pesticide, insecticide and irrigation can be termed as green revolution.

Demerits of Green Revolution
A.      Losses of local varieties: introduction to improved varieties caused the disappearance of of several local and native varieties. The diversity in the number of the varieties is reduced.
B.      Dependency on the other countries: due to unavailability of the developed infrastructure dependency for the all the input used is increased.
C.      Disease in one crop can cause total crop failure of the crop in large area.
D.      Market failure: the introduction of high yielding varieties, the price of commodity is reduced and the farmer growing local varieties are having less marginal return. They have to quit the business as other option if he/she is not using high yielding varieties.
E.       Soil fertility: Increased use of chemical fertilizer, pesticides etc. Caused soil fertility to decrease. It is said that many pesticides used in farm field are injurious directly or indirectly including decrease in quality of the soil.
F.       Decrease in quality: the high yielding varieties are poor in quality than the local varieties due to several reasons. Decrease in quantity of amino acids and its quality, increase in the quantity of water are some of the reason.
G.     The improved seeds for vitamins, and nutrients are not required, the required is supplied with local vegetable, fruit etc
we have several opportunities to be recovered from  hunger problem, food insecurity. We can enjoy the several natural beauties without modifying its main character. Green revolution and genetically modified organisms were our need but it is not today. Let’s do no more change in nucleus. Let's beautify nature in it's own way.

Thank You
